News Then & Now

I remember when the cow "Bessy,"  having a calf was front page news and five o'clock news back then our news was "Leave It To Beaver," news. For me the first murder I remember being reported was President John F. Kennedy which not only shocked me but the world and the nation. If there had been any other reported prior to that they didn't register but I am sure there was one or two. There were so few murders back then so if you heard a report about a murder you remembered.  Today sadly if the news reported about all of the murders, overdoses and suicides they wouldn't ever report anything else and this is sad.

What is also sad- the last couple of generations will never truly know how wonderful it was back then to be able to feel much safer then we do today. I remember being able to leave the front door open and windows. Left our car windows open and on occasion having to run to roll them up when it started to rain or snow. A time when kids went to school came home did chores homework and behaved. (most of them.)

Penny candy was really a penny, gasoline was a whole lot cheaper, our products really were made in America, We had a thriving auto industry and neighbors really were neighborly. Today candy rarely is a penny, gasoline is so high one persons pay check keeps the cars in gasoline, our products are not made here only a label sewed in here so they can legally label it Made In America, our auto industry is still alive but sometimes I ask "who knows for how long?" Oh and less and less people are as neighborly in fact you no longer know who you can get close to because some people just are not good.

So we somewhat isolate ourselves with the electronic wall, instead of being able to walk in and pay the electric, gas and some other bills in person you have to do it online or by phone. Getting a real person on the phone right away to speak to is like trying to reach the President and I think you could actually reach the President easier.

We have made progress so much in my life time the list is long; like going from radio to black and white television then on to color then from tubes to circuit boards, microwaves, first man on the moon, from albums to eight tracks to VCR's and CD's etc.

There was a time that those who held office may have had self interest but still managed to include the "People" also. Now we are fed more el toro poo poo then ever in history. Now most Americans are starting to behave like its every man/woman for themselves. Instead of the "United We Stand," we have become Divided enough that we very well could fall if we do not return to basics that this country was founded on, built on and have survive on all these years.

So then was no doubt less crime but also less people and now today we have many people to have concern for and it's that fact that makes it more important today that we do our best that we stand up for all Americans and that we prosper again as a country not just the one percent. Now more then ever we must remember who we are, we are AMERICANS THEN AND NOW....
